Currently at VMS 7.3-2, Multinet 4.4 with lots of patches. I'll be upgrading
VMS over the holiday on my DS20E. Using Apache, PMDF, etc.

How big a hassle is the Multinet 4.4 - 5.1 upgrade? Am I looking at big
trouble? What if I _don't_ upgrade? Will the VMS upgrade break Multinet?

Thanks,

What are you upgrading VMS to? If to 8.x then I suggest you go ahead
and upgrade Multinet as well, since upgrading VMS to a major version will
also necessitate that you re-install 4.4.

The upgrade to 5.1 from 4.4 is no problem. It is as you have
always done. Please, make sure that you apply 5.1 patches as
well.

Thanks,
Mo,

Just to expand on this a little more... If you are going to v8.x of VMS, then
you MUST upgrade to MultiNet 5.x - earlier versions will not work on v8.x. As
always, make sure you apply all of the current MultiNet patches.

Generally older versions of Multinet keep on going, but:

You may need to re-install Multinet or a Multinet patch, or install
a new VMS patch.

Do check to see which versions of Multinet are supported under the
new version of VMS. They don't go on forever.

Not relevant to Multinet, but note the following re: Apache support on
VMS:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/products/ips/apache/csws.html

"Important Support Notice OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.3-2 and OpenVMS
Version 8.2 (Alpha and I64) are the last releases on which the Secure
Web Server Version 1.3-* is supported. OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.3-2 is
the last release on which SWS Version 2.0 is supported."
