Modem on DECServer 90TL

I've never tried it specifically with a modem, but I can't see why NTYCP
wouldn't work for this.

$ NTYCP :==$multinet:ntycp
$ NTYCP create port nty1 /node = 132.181.31.241 /port = 2001
$ set host /dte NTY1:

ATDT .....

Subject: Modem on DECServer 90TL

Greetings

I want to connect a Fax Modem to a DECServer 90TL for the purposes of
PMDF-FAX.

I know almost nothing about DECServers but I gather the devices on it
are configured using the DECServer ip address and a port id. For example

132.181.31.241 TCP port 2001

How do I assign a device name to it so I can configure PMDF-FAX to use
it or is there another way? I can easily configure Multinet print queues
to use DECServers but a modem is not a printer.

Come to think of it, I really don't think you can use IP on a 90L, I
thought it had to be at least a 90M.

I believe it can, but the network guys have not enabled it because our
network 132.181.0.0 has been partitioned into subnets and our routers do
not recognise LAT.

The subject line mentions a 90TL (TCP/IP + LAT). The 90L is LAT only.

Also, LAT is not routable.

LAT is its own Ethernet protocol (packet type) - it is *NOT* a sub-protocol of
IP. LAT does not provide a routing layer. It must be bridged transparently at
fairly high priority.

LAT is not a routable protocol. It can be bridged. Some "routers"
can actually do both (brouters).

The DS200 does not support ip - if you want ip on a server with full
modem control, you'll need to snag a ds708.

Malcolm,

Bill MacAllister's note could be crucial ...
It has been years since I have worked with PMDF-FAX so I don't know the
DECserver details anymore, but it is critically important that the
DECserver support full modem controls. Many of the later DECserver
products didn't and thus could not be used with PMDF-FAX. My favorite
for PMDF-FAX was a DECserver 200---8 lines with full modem control.
As far as I am aware, the DECserver 90TL does *not* have full modem
control.
Exactly how critical this is, I'm not sure. When I was at Internode I
think we used to run PMDF-FAX without it, but I think we had problems,
too.

Regards,

Jeremy Begg

Or use an Emulex terminal server. Which supports IP and Lat, under license.

I have several of the ETS8P and I believe those have full modem control.
Also useful for console repeaters.

Hola Carlos, finalmente el Secretario ha aceptado vuestra oferta (el=

Sin embargo, al ser administraci=F3n tenemos un problema con el total=

Por otro lado los que van a ir al laboratorio me han dicho que el=

Good morning

Thanks for all the feed back, it has been really useful. The message is
clear. If at all possible track down a DECServer 200 and hook it up with
LAT. So I did. After brushing away a few cobwebs (both from the server
and my brain), connecting it to power and Ethernet and starting LAT I
got TSM (another trip down memory lane, miraculously I was able to find
a manual) to connect after defining the logical TSM$SERVICE_CIRCUITS =
"EI/EIA". It's a start
